We weren't terribly surprised to see what surveys from the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) and Better Homes and Gardens had to say about buyers' wish lists. Their figures tally pretty well with what we hear from Palm Springs-area real estate buyers every day.

The big word is GREEN. Between a slowly recovering economy and a growing awareness of environmental issues, buyers want no-waste efficiency in their homes. That means heating/AC systems that put energy where it's needed and Energy Star appliances. It also means more subtle efficiencies, like a great floor plan that saves steps and doesn't waste space and the creative use of recycled materials - stone, wood, metal - in upgrades and remodels.

As always, storage space is a priority and natural light is a must. Of course we all know that the Coachella Valley is unrivaled when it comes to natural light and Palm Springs architecture, including mid-century classic, is all about capturing its amazing beauty.
